'STOGA SWIM AND DIVE
Swim Meet - Conestoga v. Harriton - 12-10-19
The Central league defending champion Conestoga swim teams got off to a strong start Tuesday night vs Harriton.
The girls jumped out to an early lead with the team of Caroline Famous, Adriana Bertolotti, Lily Robinson, and Kalie Whitaker dominating the 200 Medley Relay in 1:54:71. The momentum continued with a clean sweep in the 200 Free led by Delaney Burns. After ‘only’ getting 2nd and 3rd in the 200 IM, Stoga rebounded with a 1-2 finish in the 50 Free from Robinson and Whitaker heading into the diving break.
The divers continued the momentum with a 1-2-3 finish from Phoebe Hutton, Jamie Semmer, and Paige Cutler on the boards.
Burns and Naomi Furman kicked off the 2nd half going 1-2 in the 100 Butterfly, followed by a dominating performance by Audrey Laganelli with a 54:79 in the 100 Free. Proving that Stoga girls aren’t just a bunch of sprinters, Ayala Miller, Ellie Wenstrup and Lauren Verrelli swept the grueling 500 Free as well.
A dominating win in the 200 Free relay led into the final events, where Madi Ritzenhaler and Lucy Wydeven went 1-2 in the 100 Back. They closed out the meet with a very impressive 3:50:03 from Allison Yuan, Furman, Miller, and Laganelli in the 400 Free relay.
It is clear that the Conestoga girls will again be a tough out as they look to defend their title this season.
On the boys’ side, they got off to a slightly slower start (pun intended) but the outcome was the same. After their teammates were touched out for first in the 200 Medley Relay (they went 2-3-4), Luke Nagel, Noel Park and Michael Orsulak swept the 200 Free, and the momentum continued with an impressive showing from Sophomore James Manion in the 200 IM. Patrick Hoey then won the diving unopposed heading into the 2nd half of the meet, where the Stoga boys swept the closing 7 events.
Stanley Kim and Yash Ray went 1-2 in the 100 Butterfly, before Jack Hughes and John Yu had a similar finish in 100 Free. Sophomore Aidan Brown touched out Nagel for a win in the 500, with teammate Orsulak completing the sweep.
A young guns “B” relay squad of Sophomores Matthew Pawlow and Manion, Freshman Park, and Junior Ray won the 100 Free over 2 other Stoga squads who went 2-3. Youth was served again in the 100 Back, as Sophomores Ryan McDonough and Jack Semmer went 1-2, followed by Freshman Aspen Malstrom.
In the penultimate event, freshman Christopher Ivory brought home gold at 100 breast, before Gary Wang, John Yu, Raymond Welgosh and Dennis Koh closed out the meet with a comfortable win in the 400 Free Relay. Much like their female teammates, the Stoga boys proved they are ready to defend!
Final Score:
Girls: Conestoga – 131, Harriton – 54
Boys: Conestoga – 127, Harriton - 48
